Students have been doing more collaborating, sharing and inquiring into our Unit about the Earth. We worked in small groups to construct our own globes which involved observation of the Earth to make our own. Then we needed to have a steady hand to glue and put together our globes. Students were very patient and supportive of each other. We were very pleased with the results!

Our inquiry about the Earth then took us outside on a ‘nature’ walk as we looked closely around us and recorded natural things. Students were encouraged to think if everything they saw was either: something that the Earth was made of, something that grew on the Earth or lived on the Earth or whether it was made by humans. We tried to distinguish between natural and human- made and it was quite a challenge- some things are made of wood….

Each student had their own clipboard and a record sheet and did some very careful observational recordings of the things they considered to be natural. A few students went further and tried to label their drawings. We had a lovely walk and had some productive discussions. Once back in the classroom we enjoyed looking at everyone’s drawings. We also looked at photos of objects from our school playground and verbally labelled them natural or human-made. We had a great day!

Happy weekend everyone!
