Dear Roblox families,

What a wonderful way to wrap up our first half term! It’s been another week of learning, laughter, and genuine effort from everyone.

This week, our students showed not only great teamwork but also big hearts as they took part in the bake sale for breast cancer awareness. Together, both student councils raised about 200 riyal, which will be donated to a local cancer charity. That’s an incredible achievement, well done to all our students, and thank you to our families for your generosity and support.

We have also been working hard to finish our Unit of Inquiry, ‘How We Organize Ourselves’. Students completed their community projects, and once we’re back from the break, they will present their ideas in groups and complete their end of unit reflections. After that, we will move into our exciting new unit, ‘Where We Are in Place and Time’. Keep an eye out for the unit flyer, which will go home at the end of the week when we return.

A big highlight this week was having Ms. Mary Ann join us to talk about ACTION in the PYP. Students learned some new vocabulary and reflected on the importance of taking positive action within our community. To round up our unit on ‘How We Organize Ourselves’, the class wrote a letter to Mr. Dominic sharing their thoughts on how to improve ABIS community spaces. They discussed which ideas were realistic and which might be more of a dream, horses at school anyone, before agreeing that some ideas, like adding a cafeteria, were much more practical.

I was also extremely proud of everyone’s performance on our 6th spelling test this week. The effort and focus they have been putting in are really paying off.

In Literacy, students have completed their ACROSTIC poems and they are already all colourfully up outside the classroom. You will get to see them when you come in for Three Way Conferences. After the break, we will continue with nouns and continue learning about adjectives. In phonics, we will work on the r controlled sounds er, ir, and ur.

In Maths, students reviewed place value using base ten blocks to count hundreds, tens, and ones. They also revisited 2D shapes and completed exit tickets to check for understanding, we also focused on adding and subtracting in Place Value. When we return, we will move into 3D shapes, exploring the sphere, cube, pyramid, cone, and rectangular prism, and looking closely at their faces, edges, and vertices. We will also keep practicing place value and number bonds to 20.

This week, students also completed their Glows and Grows reflections. They identified two areas where they feel they are doing well (Glows) and two areas they would like to improve (Grows), along with ideas on how to get there. During Three Way Conferences, your child will share these with you. You will also have a chance to add your own reflections in the Parents section. If you are unable to attend in person, I will share these via Seesaw so every family can be part of the process.

We will also be continuing with Show and Tell once we are back. I know we paused for a bit, but I am looking forward to seeing everyone share their stories again.

As we head into the break, I just want to say how proud I am of the progress every student has made academically, socially, and personally. We have explored who we are, debated some big ideas, and learned to think more deeply and critically. It has not always been easy, but the perseverance and growth have been wonderful to see.

Now it is time to rest! Rest is not just a reward, it is an important part of learning. When we take time to relax, play, and recharge, our brains process and strengthen everything we have learned. So enjoy the downtime, get some good sleep, move, laugh, and come back ready for the next adventure.

Wishing everyone a restful, happy, and refreshing break. You have all earned it!
