This week in Grade 1, the children have been busy with a variety of fun and hands-on activities!

They practiced cutting and pasting a number line up to 20, which helps develop fine motor skills, number recognition, and correct number formation. It’s also a great way to understand number order in a fun and engaging way.

In small groups, the children worked together to count objects from a bag and write the correct number. This activity encouraged teamwork, strengthened their counting and number-writing skills, and built confidence in using numbers.

The children also practiced their handwriting by tracing and writing the letters they have learned. This supports fine motor skills, correct letter formation, and confidence in writing.

As part of our “Who We Are” unit, the children explored identity and diversity. They added their photo to the country they come from on our world map, celebrating their heritage and learning about each other’s backgrounds.

Finally, our family photos are now displayed in the classroom. The children built their names with letters and added them next to their photo. These photos help spark conversations about who we are, helping the children get to know each other better and connect to our “Who We Are” unit. They also help the children understand that letters make sounds and that our names are made of letters. A fun way to connect learning with celebrating who we are.
