Dear Parents,

We have had another fabulous action packed week in Grade 6.

In our How We Organise Ourselves unit we have been starting to set personal goals connected to our physical, social, academic and mental health. We have been using the SMART criteria to make our goals specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely.

In literacy, we have successfully created accounts for readworks.org and Epic. For each upcoming unit there will be assigned books and tasks using these platforms.

In mathematics we have been continuing our mini unit into number sense. We have been exploring and looking into different ways to unpack ways that we can Read, model, write, compare and order whole numbers up to millions or beyond.’

Please find some photos from the week below.

In this week’s Seesaw
Please find your children’s draft of goals to their future selves. The students have also shared the process and communal Essential Agreements for the year. This week we also focused on Giving under the theme of  ‘Taking Action for Happiness’. We spoke about what things we could give other than gifts and/or money for example time, respect, smiles, and high five etc.

Parent’s Evening
Thank you to all those who were able to attend the Grade 6 Parent’s Night yesterday. It was great to finally meet some of you. Please find a link to the Google Slide we used – here

Next Week

How We Organise Ourselves – We will put our letters with our goal into a sealed box, which will be revisited at different points of the year. This unit and the central idea Many factors cause us to grow as individuals and as a community’ will run in the background throughout Grade 6 and will be a year long inquiry.

A NEW unit – we will be gently starting a very exciting Where We Are in Place and Time unit looking at migration around the world. There will be lots of great opportunities for transdisciplinary math and literacy learning within this unit. More information about this unit will be sent next week. If you are willing to come in and talk to the students about your own migration story, we would love to have some parent guests. Please reach out to one of us, if you’re interested in sharing your story.
