Dear Parents,
We have started the school year with the Unit of Inquiry Who We Are, which is a wonderful way for students to get to know each other and to explore what makes each of us unique.
This week, the students painted the Colorful Monsters. Each monster represents an emotion, such as happy, angry, sad, or calm. Every day the children now “check in” with a monster to show how they are feeling. This routine helps them become more aware of their own emotions, understand others better, and learn how to support one another.
The students also created self-portraits using mirrors to carefully observe themselves. Before drawing, we talked about the word details, like jewelry, eyelashes, or shoes, and how these make each person special.
Working together on a puzzle was another activity. While it was lots of fun, it also encouraged problem-solving, concentration, patience, and teamwork as the children shared ideas, took turns, and worked towards a common goal.
Finally, each child made their own butterfly with their photo on it. All the butterflies came together around the words Our Class Family. This shows that although we are all different, we are also the same. Together, we are one class family, and we will take care of each other this year.
Alongside our unit work, the children have also begun exploring letter sounds, focusing on the letters a, i, s, and t. They are learning the sounds, practicing how to write them, and using them to build their first words.
It has been a busy and exciting week filled with learning, creativity, emotions, and fun. Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you a wonderful weekend!
