Dear Parents,

This week we worked on three important math skills, and the games are fun to play at home too!

Ordering numbers: We practiced putting numbers in order from smallest to biggest. Each child had 8 number cards. They turned them over and quickly put them in order, then tapped the table when finished. Try it at home with number cards.

Making 10 to add: We learned smart ways to solve addition problems like 8 + 4. First, we make 10 (8 + 2 = 10), then add the rest (10 + 2 = 12). Try this with other sums like 4 + 8, 7 + 6, or 6 + 7. A number line or counting beads can help.

Counting in jumps: We practiced counting in jumps of 5 and 10. For example, start at 3 and count: 13, 23, 33… You can walk, clap, or hop as you count, it’s fun and good practice.

These games are easy to try at home and help children become confident with numbers.

Kind regards,

Ms. Guinee
