With the confirmation of the Eid holidays, this week has been a week of reflection and assessment as the students have shown what they have learned about shape and space in maths, created a final piece of poetry in literacy, and reflected on their strengths and challenges in UOI.
In UOI students showed their understandings from this unit and how it relates to the world around them by making generalisations, first by listing different facts they learnt and then expressing what they now understand because they learnt this. Students were able to move away from just thinking about their animals and see how it can relate to other animals as well. They were able to reflect on the learner profiles of being principled, open-minded and a communicator, as well as reflect on their self-management and communication skills. Students made a headline which showed their conceptual understandings. Please take a look at their reflections on Seesaw. Students were also given time to finish up their inquiry journals and work on sharing their learning through a Google Site.
In literacy this week students were challenged to write a poem with a message related to our inquiry into sustainability and protecting the planet. They were allowed to write it in any of the styles of poetry we have been learning about, and as well as being perfect for their final assessment, we also saw some very strong messages urging us to take action to look after our planet. Students also had a chance to share their poetry with Grade 7 students, who have also been studying poetry, and they were able to compare and discuss their poetry with the Grade 7 students.
In Maths, students continued to learn about scale and ratio. They then revised the key points of the maths unit through a fun Kahoot, before taking their end of unit assessment , where we saw great areas of improvement for many of our students. To end the week and in celebration of Maths Day 2025, all students took part in a whole school game of Rock, Paper, Scissors in Mazoon.

We will begin our new maths unit on fractions, decimals and percentages. We will start with using hands on models with fractions. In literacy we will be working on expository writing specifically focusing on artist statements. A new unit overview flyer will be sent out when we return from Eid.
