Good afternoon families of KG1 students and Ramadan Kareem!

We hope you enjoyed the week of school holidays and were able to spend some time together as families. We have had a lovely week back in school, with the children appearing to feel refreshed and happy to be back with friends and teachers.

As you may remember, every month the children are asked to draw a self-portrait, using just a pencil and a mirror to refer to. All the drawings will be sent home at the end of the school year and I’m sure like us, you will be fascinated by and impressed to see the progress your child has made over the school year. Each month we notice children’s pencil grip and control improving and an increasing amount of detail being included in the pictures with this month being no different!.

As part of our unit of inquiry, we continued exploring the different ways water is used, focusing this week on animals and plants. The children know that, like people, animals need water to stay alive. After reading The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle, the children shared their thoughts on whether plants need water to grow—almost all of them agreed that they do! To find out for sure, we started a simple experiment! Each child planted bean seeds in two cups of soil—one cup will be watered regularly, while the other will receive no water. Over time, we will observe the differences and see if their hypothesis was correct. Photos can be found on your child’s Seesaw portfolio.

Special Request: Next week, we would love to explore books written in the children’s home languages. This not only celebrates the diversity of our class but will also help the children understand that language can be written in many different ways and that books exist in a variety of languages. With this in mind, if possible, please help your child choose one (children’s) book from home, preferably in the language (or one of the languages) you speak as a family. Please send the book to school with your child on Sunday. We will make sure it is returned home on Tuesday. Thank you for your support!

The photographs below represent a small snapshot of this week’s PE lesson.

Wishing you all a good weekend,

Kristina, Rahma and Buthaina
