Dear Secondary Families,

Oman Week is upon us and we are all very much looking forward to the activities and residential experiences. The week will begin with a whole-school assembly, and students are invited to wear their traditional Omani clothing on Sunday. The week will conclude with a special celebration assembly on Thursday.

Due to the disruptions and cancelations caused by last years bad weather, Secondary Students Residential Trips are happening at different times throughout the next few weeks. Grade 8 are heading to Mussanah Resort next week for a three day Sailing Adventure. Grade 7 are going to Sifah Beach the following week for a three day Water Sports Camp and details of the Grade 9-11 trip in April will be shared next week. Oman Week is a great opportunity for us to celebrate Omani culture and heritage while also giving students an opportunity to engage in adventurous and cultural residential experiences in the beautiful and diverse landscape of Oman.

Oman Week is then followed by our International Food Evening on February 20th, where we have an opportunity to celebrate all of the other cultures in school. Please see details that have been sent and we really hope to see you there!

Today we had our monthly House Competition in the Secondary School. At ABIS, our House system isn’t just about competition—it’s about collaboration, leadership, and school spirit. This time it was Grade 8’s turn to take the lead, planning and organizing the event. This student-driven approach fosters responsibility, creativity, and teamwork—essential skills for life. Today’s competition was the strategic game of ‘Capture the Flag’.

We wish our Model United Nations (MUN) delegates success this weekend at TAISM in Muscat. MUN is an educational simulation where students take on the roles of delegates representing different countries in the United Nations. Participants engage in debates, draft resolutions, and negotiate solutions to global issues, following real UN procedures. It helps students develop public speaking, diplomacy, critical thinking, and collaboration skills while deepening their understanding of international relations. It aligns well with IB values by encouraging open-mindedness, research skills, and a global perspective.

Finally, I would like to congratulate our Grade 12 students for completing their Mock Examinations over the last two weeks. Teachers are now busy marking the papers and will be providing students with subject specific feedback to help them prepare for their final examinations. Grade 10 students are now preparing for their Mock eAssessment Exams.

Have a lovely weekend

Andy Cooper
