Weekly Pictures Here
This week was full of review and getting back to the classroom antics. We began the week by writing sentences about our holidays. We had to share information about four topics which included; fun, family, favorite, and food. Students then shared their ideas with the class. We reviewed nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Students were instructed to write five words for each in their grammar notebooks and I randomly called on students to share a word.
For UOI we jumped right into our House Projects. Students have been completing research on the biome their house is located in. They have looked at the ways you find water and food in that area. They have found the features of a home that are used in that area to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Today, the students finished their research questions and some have begun drawing a model of the house they plan to build. Next week they will begin building their houses.
PLEASE SEND THE STUDENTS WITH MATERIALS THAT CAN HELP THEM BUILD THEIR HOUSE. ITEMS SUCH AS CARDBOARD BOXES, TOILET PAPER TUBES, PAPER TOWEL TUBES (DO NOT INCLUDE THE PAPER, ONLY THE TUBE LEFT OVER), AND ANY MATERIALS THAT WOULD HELP YOUR CHILD COMPLETE THEIR PROJECT.
For math we have begun measurement. The class completed a KWL chart about what they know, what they want to know, and when we have completed the unit we will go back and write what we have learned. We used cubes, squares, and rulers to measure Geoff the Giraffe, Gerry the Giraffe, and Gheorge the Giraffe. We learned that our rulers show centimeters and inches. Today we completed Task Cards where they worked in groups, measuring items in both centimeters and inches.
NEXT WEEK, the students will be completing a writing task. They will need to write about their winter holiday. They will need to sequence the paper, meaning keep it in order from beginning to end. Remind them to write a title, topic sentence, and use details. They can write about the whole trip or just focus on one day. Talk to your children about their holiday this weekend. Remind them of all the wonderful things you did together as a family.
In English we will continue reviewing grammar, writing sentences, and practicing our phonics. In Maths we will continue working on measurement, reviewing place value, and reviewing adding up to one hundred.
Next week January 20th we will complete our school photos. This will be on a Monday. As you know we begin swimming next week, but our photos take place at 10:50 AM, so the students will not be swimming on Monday. Please do not send them to school with their swimsuits. Please send them to school ready for PICTURE DAY!!!!
