Dear families,
This week did not quite turn out as planned with the two rain days coming half way through the week, meaning we had to do a quick rethink. We thank you for your patience and flexibility this week and for supporting your children at home.
Within the reduced time we had in class this week, we still managed to enjoy plenty of learning. We used a well-known and well-loved story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle. After reading it, we challenged the children to sequence pictures from the story in order to retell it. The next day we set out felt-fabric pictures from the story, along with the book itself, and the children enjoyed using the props to tell the story once again. In connection with our unit of inquiry, we continued to consider ‘our responsibility towards our shared space’. We enjoyed reading ‘Llama Llama, Mess, Mess, Mess’ and talked about how Llama Llama decided to help his Mama clean up his toys at the end of the story, because the idea of living and playing in a home that is full of mess and chaos was not fun. We then turned to our own shared space, the classroom, and considered what our responsibilities might be. In small groups, we looked at different areas of our learning environment and the children came up with how we might, together, take care of each space. A reminder that next week will be the final week before the October holiday. There will be no school from Friday 25th October until Monday 3rd November.
