It was so good to see so many of you at our Parent Information Evening! For those of you who could not attend, please find the attached information leaflet, and the overview for our first Unit of Inquiry. The main difference that you need to know is that there will no longer be an email sent to you by Grade 5 teachers on Sunday morning. Instead, we will send a message via seesaw every Thursday with a brief overview of the week’s learning, as well as information for the week ahead.
Grade 5 Students MUST:
- BE ON TIME IN THE MORNING! Any later than 8.20am, they must report to Ms Eiman in LC3 before coming to class.
- BRING THEIR IPADS, WATER BOTTLE, HAT & HEADPHONES EVERY DAY!!!!
This week students started to engage with our new unit as they explored beliefs and values through a range of engaging activities. They then had to think independently about the things that they value in their lives and how important these things are to them. Please ask them about these and see which things they value the most.
In literacy students explored who they are as writers. They identified which things they like to write about, and how they viewed themselves as a writer, both before and after a writing assessment. It was interesting to see that everyone is different, and has different likes and dislikes. Things some people find easy, others find difficult, just like real life!
In mathematics we had a lot of ‘show what you know’ type activities, including a number knowledge assessment, some problem solving about a poor ant who got stuck in a well, then a fun frog jumping puzzle game, which involved some trial and error, as well as recording to work out the correct algorithm. Ask them to play this with you!
