I’m reflecting on a wonderful first week of school with our new Grade 1 students. It’s natural for some to feel a bit nervous at the start, but it has been heartwarming to see how quickly the children have relaxed and eagerly engaged with me, Ms. Maysaa, and their classmates.
During this initial week, we focused on getting to know one another and adjusting to our new learning environment. We explored the concept that our names are made up of letters and that each letter has a sound. We practiced building our names and counting the letters in them. We also created a name graph to see who has long names and who has short names.
In addition, we began exploring our Math and Reading stations, and we worked on creating our birthday calendar, which will have a special place in our classroom this year.
Thank you for a fantastic start to the school year!
