Dear Families
Inquiry learning in an International Baccalaureate (IB) school emphasizes student-centered exploration and critical thinking. It encourages students to ask questions, conduct research, and develop their own understanding of subjects. This approach aligns with the IB’s mission to create inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Through inquiry learning, students engage deeply with content, develop essential skills, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
It is always a pleasure to walk through classrooms and see this approach in practice. One example this week was in the Grade 8 Design Class, where students have been using their design skills to construct models of their perfect homes. With the research and theoretical content already covered, I was able to see them using foam boards, knives and glue to create architectural style models. This involved practical and problem solving skills, alongside the creativity to make an exciting living space. Perhaps this unit of work will inspire some of our students to become future architects!
Have a lovely weekend.
