The teams have been announced, and we are delighted to welcome Ms Ahlam and Ms Maryam into the Grade 5 Team as mentors for this year’s Great Grade 5 Cook Off! This week students have been unpacking the Central Idea for this Unit of Inquiry: Food can go through many stages and journeys to reach our table. As part of the tuning in process students have been developing their note taking skills as we watched the 2021 Documentary: Eating Our Way to Extinction. It’s not always been an easy watch, but it has led to lots of discussion and a greater understanding of the impact our diets are actually having on the planet.
Students were tasked with creating their team names and logos, and designing their own chef’s hats amid a lot of excitement and great ideas. The teams are as follows:
- Team JHAMSY – Mentor: Ms Maryam
- Team Best in the West – Mentor: Ms Ahlam
- Team Kitchen Kings – Mentor: Ms Khadija
- Team Kitchen Chaos – Mentor: Miss Rachel
In maths students put their learning into action by creating their own 3D packaging using 3D nets, and got very creative with their food products and designs. We also inquired into the different types of triangles and got hands on with using protractors to accurately measure angles.
