Salaam alaikum,
Grade 4 had a great week! Our students do Reading Comprehension activities with ease now in class. The students focus and read their weekly text, highlight any unknown vocabulary and find the meaning of those words using their research skills. Then students answer multiple choice, short answer, cloze and extended response questions, and organize information from the texts into graphic organizers. Bravo to our students! Their growth is evident as I’ve begun doing their reading assessments and students are moving up a minimum of three PM reading levels! In addition, students are studying and almost everyone is passing their weekly spelling tests. Homework is being turned in regularly by almost every student in our class as well. Your support from home is greatly appreciated.
This week our students learned more about what exactly Solar Energy is and how the sun’s energy is converted to electrical power using photovoltaic cells. Students summarized what they learned in informational paragraphs in their journals. They also designed posters that exhibited what they learned.
In Math, students were challenged with finding the perimeter of various rooms using a House Floor Plan. Students really enjoyed working with their teams during this exercise. Also, students were able to learn the “Traditional Method” of solving 2 by 2 digit multiplication problems. After learning “The Box Method” for 2 by 2 digit multiplication many students were able to master The Traditional Method” easily. Please give them a few 2 by 2 digit multiplication problems (56×32) and check your child’s understanding.
Forgive me for not sending photos lately with my posts because my iPad isn’t working properly these days and needs serviced. I hope to have it fixed soon making it easier to send you photos of what we’re doing in class. Please make sure students finish their homework this weekend as it’s due Sunday.
Have a great weekend!
