Please be advised that Thursday 29th September will be a Professional Development Day for teachers and that students will not be in school.

Thank you parents for signing and returning the field trip letters. We are very excited to be visiting the community of Fizah on Monday 26th September, in connection with our Unit of Inquiry. Parents are very welcome to join us on this field trip. We will be departing from ABIS at 8.20am and returning to school by 2pm. Parents must make the journey in their own vehicles and in line with our safeguarding policy, all students will travel on the school bus with teachers. If you would like further information, please get in touch.

Thank you so much to our parent volunteers who have offered to come and speak to our students about how their working communities are structured.  If you feel that this is something you can also get involved in, please contact us.

This week we rewrote our central idea for our Unit of Inquiry in our own words! We went from the teacher’s central idea: Communities can advocate for their own and others rights and responsibilities; and we broke it down to understand the words and rewrote it as; Communities support all members to make everyone’s lives better. This is great practice for our PYP Exhibition in grade 6 when we will be writing our own central idea and lines of inquiry! We also took a deep dive into the Learner Profile attributes and how these will look in action in Grade 5.

In maths we started to explore exponents (to the power of base 10) and used them to multiply and divide decimal numbers. In reading we continued to explore biographies about change makers and we had some really deep discussions arising from this. In writing we are focusing on note taking and the section headers we are finding in the biographies we read. We also wrote about our own Learner Profile attribute strengths and weaknesses explaining the reasons we chose them.

Have a great weekend! Grade 5 Teaching Team.
