This week we used our mapping skills by adding features to maps. We practiced using a map grid to find features on a map, and then made our own maps and practiced reading each other’s maps while using the map grid. In the classroom we started guiding each other around the tables by giving students specific directions such as “turn East and take 3 steps, turn South and take 6 steps,” we will continue to practice our verbal directions next next week.
In writing we have been focusing on adding adjectives to our writing and using descriptive language. Today we wrote a descriptive paragraph about animals and then shared our writing with the class.
During Math we have been practicing telling time to the quarter hour. Please practice this skill at home with your child. We also started a Multiplication Challenge! Students have been asked to memorize their times tables up to 5, when they feel that they are ready they can ask myself or Ms.Fatma to test them during Math time. If they know their times tables to 5, they earn a Star Student wrist band. Please practice multiplication at home with your child.
We voted on several books this week for our new read aloud and the students have selected the book “Young Indiana Jones and the Circle of Death,” it should be an interesting read aloud!
Happy Weekend!
