Grade 11 DP History students continue to make progress and have worked very hard this year as we have covered a wide range of content.  Currently, HL students are engaged in a Paper 3 unit examining China and Korea during the years 1910-1950.  These were pivotal years for both countries.  For China, this era saw the end of imperial rule through the Chinese Revolution of 1911, the founding of both the Nationalist Party (GMD) and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Japanese occupation during the Second Sino-Japanese War, over 20 years of civil war, and the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 as the defeated GMD set up the competing Republic of China on the island of Taiwan.  For Korea, these years marked the annexation of the peninsula by Japan, the exploitation of the Korean population and its resources during World War Two, the political division of the country in 1945, and the onset of the Korean War in 1950.  Students will be analyzing the significance of all these events from a variety of historical perspectives as they familiarize themselves with the requirements of Paper 3.  Meanwhile, SL students will have the opportunity to focus on the Internal Assessment and the detailed outline that all DP History students will be expected to complete before school lets out for summer.  Please continue to encourage your child to put forth maximum effort for these next few weeks before enjoying a much deserved break over the holidays.
