Kid Planet Mission Statement

” We challenge ourselves to use reusable materials to make new products. We will help change the world and save the planet by selling our products to earn money, and using the money to make the world a better place. We hope to set a good example for others to follow.”

All students agreed, that over the last few weeks, we have successfully fulfilled our Mission Statement!

We opened our doors at 8:40am today and had a flood of customers as both Grade 5 and Grade 4M came shopping. Within 13 minutes we had sold 7 chandeliers, 7 large bowling sets, 3 small bowling sets, 4 Under the Sea Mobiles, and 19 checkerboard sets! Which means we had completely sold out of chandeliers and checkerboard sets, in only 13 minutes!!! It was an extremely busy 13 minutes, so busy that I wasn’t able to snap a photo.

By 10:55 we had SOLD OUT of all EVERYTHING, the K3 class was the last class to visit and they bought the rest of the Under the Sea Mobiles. In total we sold, 7 chandeliers, 19 checkerboards, 36 Under the Sea Mobiles, and 22 bowling sets! After subtracting our expenses, 3.850, we ended up with a net profit of 33 rial, 425 baisa! We are very excited to donate this money to the World Wildlife Federation to help endangered animals.

We all enjoyed working at Kid Planet so much that we unanimously decided to keep our non-profit organization open for the rest of the year! Every Tuesday from 1:40 – 2:40, we will turn our classroom back into the Kid Planet workspace! We should have new products for sale in a couple weeks.

The students have really enjoyed turning our classroom into a workplace and working together towards a common goal. They learned many valuable lessons about how to organize themselves, how to share responsibilities, how to make plans, and how to clearly communicate instructions. There is clear evidence that all students have gained a deep understanding of the central idea ” In a workplace people share responsibility and work towards a common goal.” Students took on big responsibilities throughout this unit of inquiry, and were able to successfully lead their employes during their workdays. We learned how to add money with decimals, and how to subtract it! We also practiced our multiplication skills during this unit and learned some new vocabulary words.  I really enjoyed watching the students proudly show off our items to our customers today, and tell them how to make each product. Thank you to all of our customers today that came and bought one of our items!

On Monday we will be having a big math day as it’s pay day! Each group will need to calculate their employees wages and calculate their own salaries. Groups will then count out pretend money and pay each other for their work! I’m looking forward to seeing how much I’ve made as the CEO of Kid Planet 😉

Have a lovely weekend!
