This week we were very busy with the planning and organizing for our Kid Planet workdays. Each group helped the accountants to decide on a wage for the employees and a price for their products. We calculated how many bottles each student needed to paint and calculated how many bottles we needed in all. We also had to figure out how many bottles each product required. We did a ton of tricky Math this week, it was excellent real-world application! Each group also helped the managers to come up with a checklist of materials and instructions. The Head Designers worked with their group member to write the steps involved to make their product and decided on colors and designs. The Advertising Sales Agents began making their posters on Pages to advertise their products. After each group finished their planning, it was time for their work day! The Tarantulas were the first group to take on their leadership rolls and try and organize their 17 painting employees. It was very fun for the CEO (me) to watch as the Tarantula team lead their employees and answered all their questions and needs. Today’s workday belonged to the Lions, they had 2 hours today to organize their 17 employees and teach them how to make the plastic bottle chandelier. Next week we will hopefully get through the other 3 group’s workdays and start selling our products.
Quotes from the Tarantulas and Lions
“Being the boss is like super super hard” Mahwish
“”Everybody needs my help, it’s so busy” Xavier
“That’s right, well done, you’re doing a good job” Dionisio
“Raise your hand when you’re ready for inspection” Nova
“My employees are painting super fast” Mohammed
“Keep trying, you can do it” Tayma
“I have so many things to clean up” Josiah
I will show your how” Elisa
“I can help you” Hans
Overall I think the students are doing an excellent job of organizing themselves. We’ve had a few mistakes but the students have learned from their mistakes and have found better ways to organize the painting and drying of bottles.
This week we also celebrated Earth Day. We participated in a quick community clean up and collected several bags of trash. We also watched the YouTube videos, Man, and Plastic Planet. We read the story, “Earth Day Hooray” and talked about our Mission Statement for Kid Planet. We think everyday should be Earth Day and we will try our best to make it that way!
Have a wonderful weekend! Oh and please send an old shirt your child can wear when painting. Even with the aprons on, the students are still managing to get paint on their clothes! Thanks
