Effective summarizing of texts is a fantastic way to check for comprehension and deeper understanding. This week Grade 11 was challenged to read a text about the Russian Civil War and then, working in groups of three, summarize the text in thirty words. The difficulty comes in identifitying and pulling out the key phrases and terms that best capture the essence of the text, and do so as concisely as possible.
