100th Day of School Math Party – Wednesday, Feb 25th
According to the Grade 2 calendar, tomorrow will be the 100th day of school. To celebrate a 100 days in school the students have asked to have a class Math Party! Tomorrow will be all about the number 100. The students have been asked to bring 100 of something from home, they can bring 100 buttons, 100 cheerios, 100 pretzels, or 100 of anything else that their creative minds can think of. All morning we will be inquiring into the number 100 and creating as many addition and subtraction sentences as possible that make 100!! We are very excited!

International Mother Language Day – Thursday, Feb 26th
February 21st was International Mother Language Day and we will be celebrating this day on Thursday, Feb 26th in Grade 2! If your child’s first language is not English, they have been asked to bring a book in their Mother Language to share and to prepare 5 words in their Mother Language language to teach us. We are interested in learning animal words, numbers or feelings. If your child’s first language is English, your child has been asked to think of slang or special words that may be spoken in the area that your family originated from. I can’t wait to teach Grade 2 some weird words that come from Saskatchewan! If parents are also interested in reading a story or showing us a cartoon in their Mother Language, we would love to have you! Thursday is our most flexible day as we have no specials, if you would like to join us at any time in the morning to help us celebrate International Mother Language Day we welcome you to do so.

Math Homework
Today your child received a Math homework book according to their current level in Math. This Math homework book is to provide additional practice for your child at home and to review skills previously taught. These practice books will also provide you with some information as to how your child is doing in Math. The answer keys have been provided in the back of the book, I encourage you to correct your child’s work with them and assist them in learning to self-correct their work so that they can develop their independent problem solving skills. It’s expected that your child complete 3-5 pages a week, and work at their own pace.

That’s all for now!
