Many things have been happening this week in Grade 3. We have been wrapping up our Unit of Inquiry about the Human Body. We had a visit from Anita Murray, a doctor. This visit was a form of summative assessment to see what the children have learnt over the past few weeks. We have also done written assessments and all projects have been marked. Anita was very impressed with what the children knew as was I!
We also had a visit from Fatima Ali’s parents Naila and Ali who are both eye doctors. This was a combination between our unit on the Human Body and our next unit Artistic Expression. We have been discussing how eyes allow us to see other people’s forms of artistic expression.
During Math time we used the “breath tester” Anita left us to record our breaths. We then had to record our total puffs as a group, find the total, the difference between the smallest and largest puff and then write a word problem to say what we had done.
We spent Wednesday with Miss Celine making and creating clay pots for painting next week. We also filled in some more of our timeline in relation to events that happened at the port. This created some small discussions at the time but on Thursday morning the children were involved in highly animated discussions about the events of that day. They have written and drawn in their diaries at school. Many of the children have been willing to share their thoughts and drawings which is a great sign!
