Dear Parents and Students,
Another busy week.
Three Way Conferences
It was great to meet so many parents as part of our three way conferences this week. Students were excited and proud to share their learning portfolios and their goals with you. It was nice to meet so many parents on campus and for you to see your children’s learning space. I especially enjoyed meeting parents, finding out a little more about you and talking with you about your children’s progress. I also found out that one of our class parents had been to New Zealand and while there was based in the same town that I went to university in many moons ago. Please remember that I am only an email away if you ever have any questions about your child’s learning.
Homework
This week we have continued with our homework programme coming home on Sunday to be completed every night before marking on Thursdays. It is important that students are reading, writing and doing Maths practice on a daily basis. Thank you in advance for supporting this and for sighting and signing the homework every week.
Reading and writing
This week students have begun to work in new groups based around developing language skills in reading, writing and spelling as well as working on writing their scientific reports and their Holiday personal narrative. I look forward to posting some samples of this once these are complete.
Mathematics
This week students continued to work on developing their mathematical understandings and skills at working with larger numbers to solve problems, they also worked on place value to write numerals from words and words from numbers as well as finding the rule and looking for patterns in mathematical equations.
Integrated UOI
This week we have continued to work on designing and making flying objects as well as inquiring into the principles of flight. Students are doing a great job of innovating on a basic pet bottle rocket with the challenge of making a flying machine that will fly for distance. Please see the link here for some pictures of our progress in this area.
Social Studies
This week students presented their mini inquiry unit on the Date Palm and received a very good review from their audience of peerThey have learnt a lot during this unit and presented very well. I have been impressed with how their confidence in public speaking is developing.
Please see the link here for some screenshots of their work.
Notice
Please note that next Thursday, November 18 is Oman’s National Day (despite the holiday being later in the month). In recognition of this day all staff and students are encouraged to come to school dressed in traditional attire or wearing Omani colours on this day. This is a great day and the students really enjoy it!
