Wow! What a great couple of days for ABIS students on the basketball court!
BOYS
On Monday the boys team were the first to travel to the big city to take on the Muscat schools in a 14&U basketball tournament.
Our first up game was against TAISM and the boys settled very quickly without the nerves of the previous year. ABIS totally dominated the game displaying great teamwork and passing skills with David scoring all the points for an 11-2 win.
The second game was also against a TAISM team and at one stage our boys were down 8-7 before showing excellent composure to score the last 3 baskets to take the game 13-8. Another good team effort with David, Anton, Mikey, Jed and Isaac all contributing to the score board and Saif doing a great job in defense.
In the final game ABIS was up against BSM in a winner take all affair. ABIS took an early lead with a basket from Isaac but BSM quickly hit back. The game see-sawed as David scored and then Jed with a great drive to give the boys a slender 6-5 lead. With 2 minutes to go Mikey scored with his favorite shot to give us a 3 point buffer. BSM managed to score again but ABIS had been too strong to take the game 8-7.
Well done boys on a fantastic effort, especially under pressure.
GIRLS
On Tuesday it was the girl’s turn and not to be outdone by the boys, put in a totally awesome performance. Once again the first game was against TAISM and after a first up basket from Aisha the girls grew in confidence. Andee and Christine dominated the top of the key and their ball skills in offence were far too good for the opposition. Trisha, Aisha, Kerry-Ann and Tamika were impenetrable under the basket and TAISM failed to score as the girls ran away with an 18-0 win.
The second game was also against a TAISM team and although the result was a bit closer it was a familiar story Aisha once again scored the first basket and all the girl’s scored as they took the game 14-4.
The last game was a little tougher but I’m not sure if that was because the girls were a little tired and the ball just wouldn’t go in the hoop. Finally Andee and Christine made some shots in the centre and the girls were away to finally win comfortably 12-2. Overall their defense was so good they only allowed the opposition to score 6 points. Awesome! Congratulations girls on your great teamwork and big smiles.
