Hello everyone,
As we near the end of our first Unit of Inquiry into Human Rights, Biographies and the number system, Grade 5 have been applying all the skills they have been learning.
In Mathematics we have been using number strategies to start our inquiry into subtraction. We have been exploring how addition and subtraction are inverses of each other and that algebra can help us to solve addition and subtraction problems (created in the 9th century by the Muslim mathematician Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī. In fact the word “algebra” originates from the Arabic al-jabr, which means “the reunion of broken parts.”)
In Unit and Language we have been completing our research into Human rights activists and using this information in our biographies. We have been exploring the “burger paragraph” concept where we make sure that we include lots of relevant detail in each paragraph. We are editing and redrafting to ensure we make our work as high quality as possible. We are excited to publish our final drafts next week.
Have a wonderful weekend
