One of the Approaches to Learning skills we have been learning about is “Self-management”. Can you organise your own time? Finish work in the given time? Be on time to class and school?
We gave the Grade 4 students the opportunity to practise this skill during our Independent Monday. The students were given a list of the work which needed to be done and a personal planning sheet. They were given 10 minutes to plan out their day, then they started work. Work could be done in any order but the work with an asterisk was not to be done until all other work was completed.
The students also had a check off sheet which was signed by a teacher once the work was completed and seen.
The students worked well throughout the day and showed themselves to be responsible. At the end of the day we reflected on our experience and looked at things we would do differently next time.
