This week, Grade 11 have been learning about the role, position and treatment of women in Shakespeare’s England. They were shocked by the brutal punishments dished out to women who failed to conform to society’s expectations, (some of them were indeed angry!) such as the horrible scold’s bridle.

This all sets us up for a fascinating examination of gender politics and marriage in ‘The Taming of the Shrew,’ where the central character, Kate, confronts her male dominated society head-on.
