We are applying what we have learned about patterns in Maths to Art. We are focusing on visual patterns found in Islamic Art and architecture.

To begin, we have been mastering noticing and creating radial and liner patterns. We looked at examples of linear and radial patterns:

Radial Pattern

These patterns have a centre and work their way out. They kind of look like circles but they are made from different shapes.

Linear Patterns

These don’t have a centre but move horizontally or vertically.

Both types of patterns connect together and you can imagine them going on forever. We had fun making our own. They were beautiful! Please look at them on our websites

When you are out and about, look for radial and linear patterns. They are everywhere! I saw a bunch at the Safeer Mall carved and painted into the walls.
