A Rubbish Beach Clean Up! | ABIS Broadcaster

What a load of rubbish the great beach clean up day was this week! Students filled nearly 150 sacks with all sort of items ranging from old sandals to plastic bottles and dead fish, though the oddest item found was someone’s X ray – I hope they are ok! It was a pleasure to see so much effort being put in by students from the Secondary School, but also from members of the Primary School Eco Club who joined us. They really made a difference, which was especially obvious when you drove along the beach for two kilometres and there was no rubbish at all. Some local fisherman actually came over and thanked us. I am proud to say that the students were wonderful ambassadors for the school, especially Aisha Al-Muqbali who led and organised the project. Thank you also to those parents who joined us. We hope to be joined by Sohar University next year as we combine our efforts to improve the environment and urge others to make a beautiful country even more beautiful.

The Parents evening on Monday was a really useful experience for us and we hope that you found it equally useful. Parents evenings are a very good opportunity to pinpoint what is going right and what isn’t and then decide how to fix it. It is clear that there is much development happening amongst the students, which is pleasing, however it is also clear that there is much to do, especially with making students become more active and proactive with their learning. Put simply the more they take control of their learning the better they will do.

The run up to winter break is a particularly busy time of year for everyone but we hope you can still attend two events. The Winter production though mainly a Primary school event will involve some Secondary students and will be a fund raiser for the Maher organisation. Please also join us for our special ‘pre winter break’ Secondary Assembly in the SLS on Monday December 16 between 8:35am until 9:15 am.
