As the Gr. 11 Language and Literature students move on to the topic of language and gender we will be looking at how the use of certain words affects a culture’s perception of a gender, how the identities of men, women, girls and boys are restricted by stereotypes perpetuated by the written and visual tests that surround us. We’ve already watched Joss Whedon’s speech at the Equality Now fundraising dinner. His message and delivery are completely aligned with this course’s objectives.
