Today marked the 2nd Annual ABIS Beach Clean Up. Two full buses of ABIS students–the entire Secondary school, plus the primary school members of the Eco Club–took a short trip down to the public beach and collected and bagged rubbish. A huge swath of beach, from the Sohar Beach Hotel down past the new Radisson and into the small fishing villages, was covered in two-and-a-half hours of work.

This project was spearheaded by 9th grader Aisha Al-Muqbali. She did a wonderful job organizing and planning the day, as well as managing the Eco Club to prepare all the necessary logistics. She even coordinated with the municipality to arrange trash pick up at the conclusion of the day.

Our students distinguished themselves today and set a fine example for the community. A few locals approached us and wondered what exactly we were up to. They walked away impressed.

Our students fulfilled both the Action and the Service elements of CAS with this project and, more importantly, they got out into the community, making ABIS visible in a very positive and productive way. Congratulations to all students involved.
