Calling All Bookworms!: The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature
For the first time ever, our ABIS students in grades 6 – 10 will have the opportunity to
head to Dubai the weekend of March 8th to attend the Emirates Airline Festival of
Literature! Now in its 10th year, the LitFest is an amazing opportunity to hear authors talk
about their books, the writing process, and many other topics.
In order for us to take advantage of a special hotel deal, we need to know who will be
joining us by this Wednesday, January 24th. Read the details below (and check out the
LitFest website: https://www.emirateslitfest.com/), then send in your permission slip
either in person or via email to Ms. Brewer (a.brewer@abisoman.com).
Who? Students in grades 6 – 12 (Parents are invited to come along as chaperones and
possible drivers!)When? Friday, March 9 – Saturday, March 10 (with a possible addition of Thursday,
March 8th, for 11th and 12th graders to attend a special “university day”).
We will leave early in the morning on the first day of the festival to arrive in time
for the 10am session and return home after the 5pm session on Saturday.Where? LitFest takes place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Festival City. We will stay at
either the Crown Plaza Hotel (Festival City) or the Rove Hotels located nearby. What? Students will attend six sessions over the two days that will allow them to see a
variety of authors speak about their books, their writing, and how literature is
changing the world. At the end of each talk, students will be able to participate in
the “Q&A” session, then have the opportunity to purchase books and have them
signed by the authors. In between sessions, students can relax at the festival, interview
authors, read books, and enjoy the atmosphere of literature.Cost? Approximately 100 OMR, depending on the number of people (Price includes
festival cost and hotel; transport to be determined; food and book purchases not
included!)
