Hello Grade 6 families

We filled our week with writing, research, reading and appreciating one another!

Grade 6s are working with their K3 buddies each week. Students do an activity with their buddies ( this week it was working with sounds and words) and then had some play time. Big buddies were helping their buddies with skipping skills.

In our unit of inquiry, we were learning about push and pull factors and solidifying our understanding of migration.

In writing this week, students wrote, revised, self and peer edited their persuasive writing. They used the Writers Workshop Process to create letters to an anonymous donor convincing them of the best cause to donate a million dollars to.

The new playground was opened! Students have been enjoying their time climbing and spinning with their friends.

As with every week, Grade 6s took on a leadership role at the Weekly assembly. This week was a particular test of their skills, as it was the Appreciation Assembly where we needed to coordinate visuals and participants from all the primary classes! The tech crew of Diego, Logan, Fajr, George and Amsyar, did a super job! Our assembly hosts, Ali, Jesmika and Maria also had a lot of their plate as well with the interactive portion of the assembly and a 5 page script to learn! Well done Grade 6s.

In honor of the Appreciate Assembly, I would like to take a moment to thank the Grade 6s for the creativity, hard work, enthusiasm and cooperation they show each day. It makes it a real pleasure for me to come to work! I would also like to mention that there were no members of our newly formed Quiet Club this week! Membership will continue to be available, but I was impressed with students increased self- awareness and ability to monitor their behavior and show respect to others.

I would like to extend an invitation to parents (not for the Quiet Club!) but to see if any of you would be willing to participate in a Mother Tongue project that we would like to run in the class. Similar to the Mother Tongue Book Week event, we are looking for parents to come in to work with small groups using their mother tongue. If you are interested in participating, please send me an email. I will also repeat this request in our next Sunday email.

Have a wonderful, relaxing and joy-filled long weekend! We will see you on Wednesday December 6th.

Ms. Sarah
