This was a fun-filled week in Grade 6. Students worked together in a variety of activities to come up with a great dot day creation. Andrew and Natalie proudly shared our dot at the Thursday dot day assembly.

Book week at ABIS begins on Sunday September 17. The theme this year is Escape to Everywhere! There are lots of fun activities and events planned around the school.

Book Swap: new to ABIS this year

We are asking students to bring in books in good condition from home to swap for a book brought in by another student. Please have your child bring in as many books as they would like to add to our book swap collection. We aim to have all primary students end up with a book that is “new” to them. Novels, non-fiction, comics and Mother tongue books are all welcome! Please send all books in to your child’s teacher by Tuesday September 19th.
Book character parade: 8:30 am in the gym on Wednesday September 20. Parents are welcome to arrive after 8:20 to get a good seat. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite book character.
Escape to anywhere: photo challengeChildren are being asked to send a photo of themselves reading in an interesting or amazing location. It could be on the beach, in their favorite chair or on the couch at home, or, with the addition of modern technology (i.e photo shop) at the top of the Burj Khalifa! Please email your child’s teacher the photo in to your child’s teacher by Wednesday September 20th. A slide show of the photos will be displayed at the September 28th assembly.

In Grade 6 we talked about the benefits of silent reading on a daily bases. 20 minutes of each day next week will be devoted to DEAR (drop everything and read). Please make sure that your child has a book at school and at home to read. House points will be earned in the Annual House Reading Challenge– students track their home reading and parents fill out the challenge sheet once your child has finished reading.

Who We Are

Inquiry into who we are continues. Students self and peer evaluated their inquiry process this week. Areas for evaluation included content, presentation and organization. Each week they will receive 2 peer evaluations, 1 teacher evaluation and complete 3 self evaluations. Students will share their process each week on Wednesday with the class.

Have a great weekend!
