Dear Parents,

The beginning of the school year is an anxious time for parents, teachers and students the world over. A new class, maybe a new school, new friends, possibly a new country and culture and for teachers – lots of new children to get to know.

My path to the classroom took a slightly unconventional route. After completing my undergrad in the States, I worked for as a management consultant in the US and Canada for a number of years. A volunteer program run by the company led me to do some volunteer teaching in a local primary school in Ottawa, Canada. Realizing that teaching was a lot more satisfying, I chose to retrain as a primary teacher.

This is my second time in Oman having taught in Nizwa at the very beginning of my teaching career. The other countries I have taught in are Singapore, Bangladesh, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia.

I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year and helping him/her to achieve his/her full potential. As a parent, you can do a great deal to help your child succeed. Here are some strategies that can be used through the year:

Read to your child on a regular basis and have him/her read to you as often as possible.Encourage your child to do his or her homework. Have your child show you his/her work and explain to you what he or she has been doing in class. Help him or her to be more organized. Look for sections in the notebook that contain class notes, Vocabulary, homework, and assessment pieces.

If you have any questions or concerns at any time during the year, please feel free to contact me at school. My email address is i.mohamed@abisoman.com

Sincerely,

Inayath Mohamed
