‘Tempus fugit’ is a Latin expression that roughly translates into time flies and indeed that has been the case this year. I cannot believe the school year is nearly up: 180 days of teaching and learning and the numerous activities, events, assemblies, meetings, celebrations, tests, exams, competitions, tournaments that make up a school year. I am sure that we all look forward to recharging our batteries before pressing the reset button and starting the cycle again in September!
Thank you to all the parents who took the feedback survey and attended the annual report meeting. The feedback was very helpful and we are pleased that the vast majority of our community are happy with the progress of the school, though we will certainly not be slacking off and will continue to make improvements based on our own plans and suggestions from members of our community. Please feel very welcome to drop me a line or drop in and see me if you have any concerns or thoughts.
The end of the year always features lots of exams and Grade 8, 9 and 10 have now completed theirs. We anxiously await the IGCSE results in August and hope our students achieve record results but more importantly we hope that our students can experience success and feel confident entering the IB Diploma Programme. If you were unable to attend the meeting please note that a copy of the report will be shared digitally with parents next week. You also need to be aware that your child’s ISA results are on your child’s website behind a special password protected area. Overall, the ISA data indicates that students are progressing very well at ABIS, when compared against other international schools, which is pleasing for us as this is our core purpose. Please email me if you are unaware of the password to access the ISA data or need anything explained.
A couple of immediate dates for your attention. The end of year report will also be issued shortly and most probably on Monday. There is also an end of year concert and art exhibition at 6pm on Monday. The art display up from 6pm on the night of the concert until midday on the Tuesday in the sports Hall, should you be unable to attend on Monday. You are also most welcome to join us for the Secondary the end of year assembly (period 5/ 11:30 am start) on Wednesday in the Secondary Learning Suite. There will be a follow on whole school (Primary and Secondary) assembly in the Sports Hall starting at 12:30. We will use this opportunity to say goodbye to departing families and teachers, as well as inform you on who has won the house competition for this year!
Finally, as some you will know, the Heat Stress poster competition winners and runners up will be going up to Sohar Aluminium on Sunday morning to receive their prizes and participate in a small ceremony. There were over 70 entries to the competition and these have all been displayed up at the Sohar Aluminium premises. If you work at Sohar Aluminium you will have seen them as they are festooned around the main reception area. It is hard to miss them as they are colourful and fun. Thank you to all the students who participated and raised both their awareness and that of others about this dangerous condition. Sorry for the essay!
