Over the last year we have been making investigations into how we can help those much less fortunate than ourselves. As an international school, we are committed to supporting all nationalities though we are equally committed to supporting our host country and local community. Next week Grade 10 students will be flying to India for eight days to work with a respected charity organisation called Maher, who have been making a measurable difference to many disadvantaged children, women and men in a region called Pune for many years. Our G10 students will be teaching children from very poor backgrounds, some of them orphaned, in a caring and safe environment. We think this will be a very humbling and powerful experience for them. This is an example of how we are looking to make a strong and meaningful connection with these charity organisations in a way where we don’t just donate money and walk away, but involve our students in their projects so that they can appreciate what it feels like to make a difference to the quality of someone else’s life. Similarly, we are looking into some recognised Oman charities, such as Dar Al Atta, and investigating ways that we can work with and support them as part of our CAS programme. Please visit this site for more information at what they do. The case studies are touching and specific to individuals.
It has been decided after discussion that half of the 1033 Omr profit from the International Evening and Movie Nights will be given to Maher and that we will decide on which charity (maybe Dar Al Atta) to give the other half once we have investigated how we can best work with them and if they are the right charity for our school. Thank you to the many parents who have supported the school by helping us raise funds this year. We look forward to working together again next year.
