We are starting to write haikus tomorrow and to write these types of poems, we need to really know our syllables! Luckily, a lot of us knew a bit about syllables already but we needed some review. We practiced by figuring out the syllables of our names, then we created a list of 1, 2, 3, 4 and even 5 syllables words!
After we looked at all the words we collected, we came to some conclusions. We noticed that there were a lot of one and two syllable words…as the syllable number got higher, there were fewer words. This will help us when write our haikus. We can use the word lists we have made and keep in mind that it will be easier to use one and two syllable words to write our poems tomorrow.
