Dear Primary Families,

As we reach the end of our first eight weeks of school, I hope you and your children can look back on a positive start to the year. It has been lovely to see our students settling into school life, building friendships, and growing in confidence. Thank you to all our families for the encouragement and support you have provided along the way.

We finished the week with a wonderful Grade 1 and Grade 2 Assembly. Our Grade 1 students proudly showcased their language and phonics skills, while Grade 2 shared their inquiry into communities.

The Grade 2 presentation was a lovely reminder of the diversity that makes ABIS special. Our clothes and stories may be different, but we can learn from one another, show kindness, and recognise that we all belong together. This connected beautifully with the IB Learner Profile attribute of being open-minded and the PYP concept of perspective.

We also celebrated Omani Women’s Day, which takes place on Saturday, 17th October, recognising the Omani women, and indeed all the women, who contribute so much to our school community.

Congratulations to all our students who participated, and thank you to the Grade 1 and Grade 2 teaching teams for preparing such an enjoyable assembly.

Eight Weeks of Learning and Growth

It is hard to believe that we have already reached the end of Week 8 and our first school break of the year!

Over these past eight weeks, it has been rewarding to see the progress our students have made. Whether they joined ABIS for the first time in August or returned for another year, students have grown in confidence, developed friendships, and become increasingly comfortable with their classroom routines and expectations.

One area where this growth is particularly evident is in the development of the Approaches to Learning (ATLs). Across Primary, we see students using and strengthening their social, communication, research, thinking, and self-management skills every day.

In particular, it has been pleasing to see students developing greater independence and responsibility for their learning. From our youngest learners managing their daily routines to our older students organising their work, collaborating with others, and taking greater ownership of their learning, these are important skills that will continue to develop throughout the year.

As we head into the October break, I would like to thank all our families for their continued support and partnership during these first eight weeks. I hope the coming days provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy some well-earned rest and time together.

Wishing you and your families a wonderful October break. We look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Sunday, 25th October.

Best regards,

Matthew
Primary Principal
