Dear parents,

This week, our students have continued settling into their classes and establishing the routines that will support their learning throughout the year. It has been pleasing to see them becoming more comfortable, focused and engaged as they reconnect with friends, teachers and the rhythm of school life.

Our After-School Activities also began this week, with a very good number of students participating. ASAs are an important part of school life, giving students opportunities to discover new interests, develop their talents and build relationships beyond the classroom. I encourage students to make the most of the activities they have chosen and to participate with enthusiasm and commitment.

An IB education prepares students not simply to remember information, but to think independently, ask meaningful questions, solve problems and apply their learning to the world around them. ABIS is the only school in Sohar offering the complete IB journey from Early Years through to the Diploma Programme, providing students aged 3 to 18 with a consistent, internationally recognised education.

To help parents better understand what an IB education involves, we will hold our first Parent Coffee Morning and Workshop of the year on Tuesday, September 15. This will be an opportunity to meet other parents, learn more about the school and ask members of the leadership team questions about the IB and education at ABIS. We hope many parents will join us, as a strong partnership between home and school makes a genuine difference to our students.

We would also be very happy to hear from parents who would like to volunteer their time or expertise to help across the school. This could include supporting events, activities, community projects, cultural celebrations, reading, marketing initiatives or other areas in which you feel you could contribute. If you are interested, please contact me directly.

Our Parent Committee will also begin meeting soon, and we welcome expressions of interest from parents who would like to join. The committee supports the school by:

  • offering ideas on ways ABIS can continue to develop and improve;
  • helping to organise activities and events that strengthen parent engagement and school spirit;
  • helping new and prospective families connect with experienced ABIS parents; and
  • collaborating with the Student Council on activities that benefit both the school and the local community.

The committee is a constructive way for parents to contribute to the life and development of ABIS. If you would like to be considered for membership, please contact me.

Thank you to our students, staff and families for another positive week. The strength of ABIS comes not only from what happens in classrooms, but also from the willingness of our community to participate, contribute and work together.

Have a wonderful weekend!
