This week, Grade 3 continued exploring our Who We Are unit of inquiry as we developed our understanding of the human body.
Students took part in an organ placement activity, working together to decide where different organs are located inside the body. This encouraged lots of discussion, questioning, and thinking as students shared their prior knowledge and made connections to what they already knew. From there, we began exploring the idea that our body is made up of different systems. Students discussed how organs work together as part of systems that help our bodies function. We began asking questions such as: What is a body system? Which organs work together? How do the different systems help our bodies?
In Mathematics, we continued developing our understanding of place value. Students explored different ways to represent numbers using base-ten blocks, standard form, expanded form, and number form. We also began comparing numbers, encouraging students to look carefully at the value of each digit to determine which number is greater or smaller. Students applied their learning through different number activities and challenges.
Throughout the week, students have been developing their skills as Inquirers, Thinkers, and Communicators by asking questions, sharing ideas, and working together to build new understandings. We are looking forward to continuing our inquiry into the amazing systems that help our bodies work!
