Dear parents,
We have come to the end of our second week of the academic year, and all are settling in very well across the school.
It was particularly good to see such an excellent turnout at our Parent Information Evening this week. Thank you to everyone who came along. These evenings are an important opportunity to hear from teachers about the year ahead, but just as importantly, they help build the connection between families and the school that is so important to our students’ success.
One of the highlights of the week was the Grade 12 TOK Exhibition. Many parents, students and staff came along, and I was impressed by what I saw. Our students were not simply presenting information; they were questioning assumptions, considering different perspectives and explaining some genuinely complex ideas. It was a wonderful demonstration of the deep and critical thinking we want to develop in our students.
Our Grade 10 students also took an important step this week with their introduction to the MYP eAssessments. These assessments will be a significant focus for them this year, and the introduction gave students an opportunity to begin understanding what lies ahead and how we will support them in preparing for it.
We also held our first fire drill of the year on Wednesday morning. Everything went smoothly, with students and staff responding calmly and quickly. Practicing these procedures regularly is an important part of keeping our school community safe.
Next week sees the start of our After School Activities (ASA) programme, and I know many students are looking forward to getting involved. Please sign up your child if you haven’t already.
Finally, a reminder that we will hold an ABIS Open Day on Thursday, 10 September, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. If you have friends, colleagues or family members who are considering schools for their children, please encourage them to visit us. They can tour the school, see our facilities, meet members of our team and get a sense of what ABIS has to offer.
Two weeks in, and we are off to a very good start. Thank you to our students, staff and families for helping make it so.
