What a fantastic first week of school! Class 1A has done a wonderful job settling in, making new friends, and learning the ropes of our classroom. Here is a look at what we got up to:
Building Our Community: We spent time getting to know each other through interactive games and icebreaker activities. We also collaborated as a team to create our Essential Agreement, setting positive expectations for our year together.
Mastering Routines: The students practiced our daily classroom routines and focused on making smooth, quick transitions between lessons and activities.
Expressive Communication: We introduced non-verbal signals using basic American Sign Language (ASL) for everyday classroom needs—such as “bathroom,” “water,” “help,” and “stop.” Ask your child to demonstrate these signs for you at home!
Read-Alouds & Storytime: We enjoyed several engaging books this week, including the crowd-favorite The Pigeon Has to Go to School! by Mo Willems.
Emotional Literacy: We introduced the Zones of Regulation framework to help students identify, label, and manage their feelings throughout the school day.
Special Events: The class attended their first Library session to check out books and came together with the rest of the school for our weekly assembly.
