The Striking and Fielding unit provided students with many opportunities to develop their movement skills, teamwork, and understanding of simple game strategies. Throughout the unit, students practiced striking, throwing, catching, fielding, and moving safely in a variety of fun and engaging activities. Through teacher observations, skill demonstrations, games, and class discussions, students showed growth in both their physical skills and their ability to work cooperatively with others.
Students demonstrated an understanding that successful games require communication, teamwork, fair play, and following agreed rules. Many students improved their ability to strike an object with control, catch using two hands, throw accurately towards a target, and move into space to support their team. They also began to recognize how individual actions can contribute to the success of a group.
Students reflected on being caring teammates, risk-takers, and communicators by encouraging others, trying new skills, and working together during games. They developed important Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills such as communication, social skills, self-management, and collaboration. Many students showed increased confidence, resilience, and perseverance as they practiced new skills and challenged themselves throughout the unit.
Overall, the unit was enjoyable and engaging for students. The combination of skill development, cooperative activities, and modified games helped students build a positive attitude towards physical activity while developing a deeper understanding of teamwork, movement, and sportsmanship. As they move forward, students will continue to strengthen these skills and apply them in a variety of physical activities and game situations.
