Dear Primary Families,

Today’s performance of The Jewel of Muscat was a lovely way to end the week and an opportunity for our Grade 5 students to celebrate and share aspects of Omani culture and heritage. The students performed with confidence and enthusiasm, and we congratulate them on the effort and commitment they showed in preparing for the event. Many students gave up lunch breaks and additional time to rehearse, and their hard work was clear to see throughout the performance.

Thank you to our music teacher, Mr. Mino, for leading and organising the production. We would also like to thank Ms. Khadija for her support throughout the preparation process, and Mr. Achraf for the time and expertise he contributed towards the technical elements of the performance. The combination of student performances, music, and video worked very effectively and helped bring the production together.

The themes explored throughout the performance, including weaving, henna, souqs, and fishing, gave students the opportunity to showcase important aspects of Omani tradition and identity. Thank you also to parents for your support in ensuring students were dressed in authentic Omani clothing, which added greatly to the atmosphere of the event.

Beginning to Look Ahead to the New Academic Year

As we move further into the final term of the school year, planning has already begun for the creation of class groups for next academic year. At this time of year, we sometimes receive requests from parents regarding specific teachers or class placements for their child. We always appreciate parents taking the time to share information they feel may support their child’s learning experience, and we do listen carefully to these perspectives.

When building classes, however, we consider a wide range of factors to ensure that groups are balanced in a number of ways and that all students are well supported. While it is not possible to guarantee placement with a specific teacher, families can be assured that class placements are carefully and thoughtfully considered by the school team. Final class groupings are confirmed closer to the start of the new academic year in August.

An important part of this process is ensuring that students are placed alongside at least one or two friends from their friendship group to help support a positive transition into the new school year. At the same time, mixing classes also brings many benefits. It provides students with opportunities to build new friendships, develop independence and adaptability, and continue growing as confident members of the wider school community.

We are fortunate to have a strong team of teachers across the Primary School, all of whom work hard to create supportive, caring, and engaging classroom environments for our students. As always, we greatly appreciate the trust and support we receive from parents as we work through this important process of creating classes for the new academic year.

Wishing you all a happy and enjoyable weekend.

Best regards,
Matthew
Primary Team Lead
