Dear Primary Families,

As we move further into the final weeks of the school year, it is important that students continue to maintain strong routines and good habits. Ensuring that children are getting enough sleep, eating well, and arriving at school on time each day all play a key role in setting them up for success. Positive morning routines help students start the day calmly and ready to learn, and we appreciate your continued support in this area.

This week, I enjoyed spending time in both Grade 1 and Grade 5 classrooms, where students were working on narrative writing, each at very different stages of development.

In Grade 1, students worked with a partner to create their own stories after exploring a wordless book. This approach allowed them to be imaginative and creative, using the illustrations to help shape their ideas. Students gave characters names and began to add details to make their stories engaging and enjoyable for others to listen to.

In Grade 5, students were planning and drafting realistic fiction stories connected to their Unit of Inquiry on digital citizenship. A particular focus was on how authors craft strong openings to hook the reader, and it was great to see students experimenting with different ways to capture interest from the very first sentence. I look forward to seeing how students in both grades continue to develop their pieces over the coming weeks.

Looking Ahead

Next week, we are pleased to welcome DC Books back to school as we host our second Book Fair of the year in the LC3 building. Families are warmly invited to visit and explore the range of books available. With the summer holidays approaching, this is a great opportunity to stock up on reading material.

The KG1–Grade 1 Assembly will now take place on Thursday, 7th May. Unfortunately, a technical issue with the screen meant we were unable to proceed as planned this week, but we look forward to welcoming families next week for what promises to be a wonderful sharing of learning.

Wishing you all a happy and enjoyable weekend.

Best regards,
Matthew
Primary Team Lead
