It was wonderful to see some familiar faces at the Iftar evening, thank you for taking the time to support this community event.
Another eventful week has flown by in Grade 6. We have begun unpacking our new unit of inquiry about how ‘Energy is a constant in our world.’ The students have been busy understanding what energy is and different forms of energy. They’ve had a chance to play with creating their own Roller Coasters and explaining how Energy is transferred. See this week’s Seesaw for more information.
In Maths we looked at transformations on Coordinate planes. Students have been practicing how to identify coordinates on a plane, translate shapes up, down left or right, reflect shapes over the x-axis and y-axis, as well as rotate shapes 90 degrees and 180 degrees clockwise and counterclockwise.
In Literacy we began exploring Explanatory texts, which are texts that explain why or how a natural phenomenon occurs. Students had a chance to identify the key eight features using example texts.
Coming up next week:
Maths
- Measuring and estimating angles
- Mental Maths / Revision sessions
Literacy
- Planning and drafting an explanation text
- Book Clubs
UOI
- Researching different energy forms
- Presenting about one energy form
- Classifying energy types into potential or kinetic
This week obviously presented some challenging conversations given the situation of the world, thoughtful reflections for how we can be more supportive, empathetic and understanding towards each other. We hope you and your families are safe and well.
