Dear Secondary Families,

It has been a very busy and exciting week in school as we have celebrated Oman Week across our community. Although many of our secondary students have already taken part in their Oman Week trips at different times of the year (to better accommodate weather conditions), we have still been able to enjoy a range of cultural activities here on campus.

We began the week with a whole school assembly on Sunday morning, where we were treated to some wonderful traditional dances performed by a local school. Today we were given a presentation from a group of archeologists who are currently working at Sohar Fort! They provided fascinating information about the rich history of Sohar and Oman. Students from Grades 2 – 12 had many questions. We also concluded the week with a further assembly celebrating all that Oman has to offer as our host nation. It was especially enjoyable today to see our international students proudly wearing their national colours, and we are very much looking forward to our International Evening tonight.

This week, our Grade 9 students have been away on their Oman Week trip, visiting Wadi Hoquain, Nizwa, and Muscat. The regular updates from staff have shown that students have had a fantastic experience and have been a real credit to you as parents, demonstrating excellent behaviour and conduct throughout the trip. I am sure they will return home today with many stories to share.

Today, I was also pleased to share details with our Grade 10–12 students regarding an exciting trip planned for April, where students will have the opportunity to take part in either sailing or diving. This will be our final major trip opportunity for the academic year, and we are very much looking forward to it.

Looking ahead, we will be holding our Grade 6 MYP Parent Information Evening on the 17th February from 4.30 – 5.30 pm. More details to follow, but this is the first step in our preparations for the transition from the PYP into the MYP programme. Our Grade 6 students are currently working hard on their PYP Exhibition, and once this is complete, we will begin offering further support and guidance to help them prepare for the next stage of their academic journey.

Finally, I would like to remind all families that next Thursday the school will be closed to students as staff will be engaged in a day of professional development.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing many of you this evening for what I am sure will be a fantastic event celebrating our international community.

Warm regards,

Andrew Cooper
